LINDLEY MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPE OF ELDERLY

BETHLEHEM-Bethlehem regional sexual offences  court has sentenced Lerato Mohono,25, of Lindley,  to life imprisonment  for rape of -63 year old from same town on Monday September 27.

Mohono was also found guilty of house breaking and was sentenced to three years and six months for theft which ran concurrently with life imprisonment.

This after a successful investigation by Bethlehem family child protection and sexual offence  unit lead to the conviction of Mohono.

The case unfolded on February 21,2021 when Mohono broke into the house of an elderly woman and raped her and stole her cell phone.

According to evidence before court, neighbours’ saw Mohono leaving the house of a rape survivor and community arrested him and handed him to Lindley police.

He was charged with three counts of house breaking, theft and rape and was found guilty for all three charges.

The case was investigated by Detective Constable Khehla Mosikidi of Bethlehem family child protection  and sexual offence unit.
