QWAQWA – An elderly man was fatally shot and a 65-year old woman from Mangaung village was wounded after being shot in the breast in an incident that took place during the afternoon on February 4 in the Sesting Central Business District (CBD).

According to Warrant officer Mmako Mophiring, the incident occurred around two o’ clock in the afternoon when an unknown man in the possession of a fireman was chasing one of the taxi patrollers and started shooting randomly at Setsing.

“Unfortunately, the unidentified suspect shot and killed a 66-year old taxi patroller from Moeding Village in Tseseng who is believed to belong to one of the taxi associations in Qwaqwa,” Mophiring said to the media.

Police spokesperson in Thabo Mofutsanyana district warrant officer Mmako Mophiring.

Upon hearing gunshots being fired the group of people that were standing near the taxi rank started chasing the shooter who shot again while running away. In the process, a 65-year old woman from Mangaung village was hit by a stray bullet on her breast and was rushed to the local hospital for medical attention.

According to a police statement, it is alleged that this elderly woman was part of the group that was chasing the suspect. The shooter sped off the scene of the crime in grey Toyota Tazz sedan which had GP licence plate registration numbers.
Cases of murder and attempted murder are being investigated and no further information is known by the police now.
