QWAQWA – Two suspects, Reitumetse Moeng (28) and Moeketsi Calvin Motloung (48), accused of defrauding the Dihlabeng Local Municipality, appeared before the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 July 2025.

They face fraud charges for allegedly receiving monthly salaries of approximately R10,000 each without performing any work for the municipality. Both were granted bail of R5,000, and the case has been postponed to 14 August 2025 to allow for further investigation.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Zweli Mohobeleli, the investigation began in 2021 after the Bethlehem Serious Corruption Investigation Unit received a tip-off about unidentified individuals on the municipality’s payroll.

“Evidence was gathered and submitted to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), which decided to proceed with prosecution,” said Mohobeleli. The suspects were subsequently arrested, charged, and brought before the court.
