QWAQWA — Democratic Alliance Federal Chairperson Solly Msimanga has declared that the closure of factories, soaring unemployment and collapsing service delivery in Maluti-A-Phofung are proof of a corrupt and failed government that has abandoned its people.
Addressing a packed rally at the Phuthaditjhaba Multi-Purpose Hall on Tuesday ahead of the local government elections, Msimanga told The Guard the DA is the only party with real solutions to rescue the municipality.
“The current government has failed to invest in infrastructure and failed to hold those who must account to book,” Msimanga said.
He said the DA is now the only credible alternative for change.
“You wanted an alternative. The DA is giving you the opportunity to elect an alternative to the destruction we are seeing. We want a municipality, we want a country that offers the people dignified service delivery,” he said.
Msimanga linked the municipality’s service delivery collapse directly to the economic crisis in QwaQwa.
“If you cannot deliver water from the taps, if you cannot have electricity when you switch on the plugs, and if you have sewage spillages running all over, how do you expect investors to continue to open factories?
We are seeing the bleeding of jobs all because of a failing and corrupt government,” he charged.
He urged voters not to be swayed by election gimmicks.”Use your vote wisely. Do not fall into the trap of being fooled to vote for other parties because of freebies, food parcels and a plate of lunch,” he warned.
