Lovers and student in dock for murder

QWAQWA- A couple from Tebang Village in Qwa Qwa have been arrested in connection of a murder of a 24-year man from Monyakeng section and are expected to appear before the Mmakwane Magistrate Court this Friday (02 May 2025).

The lovers 21 and 33 were arrested on a crime scene where a body of the deceased was found with a fatal stab wound on the chest.

According to the police it’s alleged that on Tuesday 29 the deceased who is the ex-boyfriend of one suspect arrived at her house demanding clothes he bought for her when they were still in a relationship.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said the deceased requested permission from the new boyfriend also a suspect to talk to her and he agreed.

“They talked, but they both ended up fighting and the new boyfriend also assisted her in fighting. It’s further alleged that she ran into the house and came back where she stabbed her ex-boyfriend with a sharp object,” said Mophiring.

The deceased was declared dead by Emergency Medical Service personnel. The police seized a knife as an exhibit. UOFS student killed for “wine” !

In the same breath the police have also arrested a 27-year-old woman believed to be a student at University of Free State Qwa Qwa campus from Phuthaditjhaba ‘Supermarket’ section for alleged murder of a fellow student 22 over spillage of wine.

Mophiring said their members were summoned on Thursday 1 May, to a murder scene where they found the deceased lying in the streets with a fatal stab wound on the chest. It is alleged that in the early hours of Thursday the suspect accused the deceased of pouring wine on her while in the street from a night out.

“Allegedly the suspect left to her room and came back with a sharp object and stabbed the victim. She died instantly on the scene,” said Mophiring.

A knife believed to be used has been confiscated as an exhibit. She is also expected before the Phuthaditjhaba magistrate court for murder.
