QWAQWA- The Phuthaditjhaba magistrate court has sentenced a mother of three to three years’ imprisonment for child negligence, which was wholly suspended on December 6, 2024 for five years on condition she is not found guilty of a similar crime.

The case according to Thabo Mofutsanyana district police spokesperson Warrant office Mmako Mophiring emanates from 6 April 2024 when at about 20:00 neighbour was at home when three children aged 10, 6 and 3 arrived at her place asking for a place to sleep.

They further asked her about the whereabouts of their mother, but the complainant didn’t know where she was. She then gave the children food and took them to the police to report the case.

“The children were taken to a place of safety by the investigating officer, while their mother was finally traced and arrested.”

Meanwhile, Lucky Malinga was sentenced to an effective 15 years’ imprisonment for raping a 36-year old woman from Mandela Park in Phuthaditjhaba on November 2023.

“The 36-year old woman from Mandela Park Phuthaditjhaba was at her friend’s place, busy drinking alcohol together with her friends. It happened that the convicted man cooked rice, and they all ate and went to sleep. While they were sleeping in the same room, the accused forced himself on her.

“She tried to stop him and screamed out for help, but no one came to her rescue. She then asked the convict that she wanted to go to the toilet. She then went to the toilet and came back. The suspect wanted to rape her again, but she stopped him.”
