BLOEMFONTEIN -Former premier of Free State Mxolisi Dukwana has been elected as the new speaker of Free State Legislature on June 26,2024, following resignation of Ntombizanele Sifuba who was re-elected on June 14 , 2024.
Dukwana is also ANC chairperson.
Sifuba ‘s resignation has made way for Dukwana . She has since been appointed by Premier of Free State MaQueen Letsoha Mathae to the position of MEC for Sport , arts, culture and recreation last week on June 20, 2024 in the 7th administration.
Speaking after his election Dukwana call upon all members of legislature from different political parties to work together and serve mandate of the people who they represent.
“Deputy speaker on behalf of this house, I wish to congratulate you for your election as Free State deputy speaker , you and chairperson of chairpersons committees to be elected later going to constitute the office of presiding officers and we will be individually and collectively responsible to lead legislature to achieve its mandate as per relevant provisions of the Constitution of Republic of South Africa and other laws.”
Using quotes from Henry Ford , Dukwana said “coming together is the beginning , being together is a progress , working together is success.”

According to Dukwana nothing beats team work as he welcomed all members of the Legislature who were sworn in on the 14th of June 2024 and the ones sworn in today.
“Swearing in for all of us has enabled us to begin to perform the mandate of the Legislature. We are now full complement and citizens of our province look upon us with hope and faith that we are going to work together to improve their lives.”
N .L Ndungane was elected as deputy speaker , while Thabo Piet Moeko and Motete Daniel ‘Oupa’ Khoabane were elected as chairperson of chairperson committees and legislature whip respectively.
