Lakaje-Mosia still mayor

QWAQWA – The Speaker of Maluti-a- Phofung local municipality Mandlankosi Dlamini has rubbished reports that executive mayor Masetjhaba Lakaje Mosia has resigned.

“I have heard in social media platforms that the executive mayor has resigned. But I say, the mayor is still holding her office because I have not received such a letter of her resigning.

“In fact, even yesterday she was still at work. As we speak she is at work on municipal projects. On Thursday we are having a council sitting and she will also attend it as the executive mayor,” Dlamini told the media on Tuesday this week.
He also disclosed that Lakaje Mosia will be tabling the budget next week on May 21, 2024.

Dlamini admitted that there had been an engagement between the executive mayor and the African National Congress provincial leadership, but declined to divulge any details.

“There has been a meeting between executive mayor and the party and those are party issues which we as the municipality of Maluti-a-Phofung cannot delve into.
But for now we have not received anything, that is why we are communicating in this fashion. But we can confirm that there was engagement between the executive mayor and the party. But it means they have not yet arrived at the conclusion because the office of the speaker would have been furnished with the resignation letter.

“Each deployee of an organization derives their existence from their party. But for now the office of the speaker has not received anything.”

Lakaje-Mosia made a triumphant comeback to the position of mayor on October 2023 after beating Gilbert Mokotso, who was ousted through a vote of no confidence, by 38 votes against 19.
Mokotso, who had reigned for only 18 months through a coalition government, was ousted by a vote of no confidence in September.
