Police spokesperson sergeant Mahlomola Kareli said the rescue of the baby was made by a male person and his cousin who were walking to the hiking spot when an unknown African male informed them about a baby underneath a tree in the vicinity. Upon their investigations they found a few days old male infant.

Kareli explained that as heavy rain was imminent, they took the infant home and immediately contacted Theunissen police and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

“The medical practitioners transported the baby boy to a local hospital for medical observation and care, “said Kareli.

However the police family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit traced and arrested the mother of an abandoned 2-day old infant in Brandford a day later, Saturday 13 December.
