Third accused remains behind bars

QWAQWA- A 53- year old Poeta Piet Lakaje 53 who is a third accused in the murder of two police officer Constable Gedione Motloung, 39, and Sipho Mohapi 45 will remain in custody till Friday January 24 ,2025 when he will be applying for a bail.

This after he appeared briefly in the Phuthaditjhaba magistrate on Monday January 20,2025 where he is facing two counts of murder, attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

He will appear alongside his two co-accused a Lesotho national ,Pakiso Lethako 33, and Kabelo Marasane, 28, from Makgalaneng village in the eastern Free State.

According to police report one of the accused Lethako has confessed to the crime and disclosed that there were five of them during the robbery.

The Namahadi based police officers were murdered while responding to a house robbery complain at Mangaung village on January 4, 2025. The two , Motloung and Mohapi were laid to rest on January 16 and January 17 , 2025 respectively.
