Unemployed youth benefit from skills training

QWAQWA-One of the people who have attained a certificate in entrepreneurship after completing a two year training has expressed confidence that the training will open that would have otherwise been impossible to open.

Matebesi said this during a graduation ceremony that was held at the Phuthaditjhaba Multi-purpose Hall last week. He said the training came at the right time when he needed it most because he had already submitted a proposal to Maluti a Phofung local municipality, and the only missing link for his proposal to be approved was this certificate.

“This is an opportunity that no one will take away from you. I am already celebrating because this training is the answer to my problems. I have already made a proposal at municipality and the only missing requirement was this certificate for my proposal to be approved.

“When we have skills and knowledge we will be able to compete in the business and labour markets. We will no longer wait for government to create jobs for us. We too will contribute to job creation by setting up businesses,” Matebesi said after receiving his certificate.

The training was made possible by the collaboration of Thabo Mofutsana and South Africa African National Apex Cooperatives.

Speaking at event, Thabo Mofutsanyana chairperson of South Africa Communist party SACP Macholo Thokoana urged the graduates to use their newly acquired skills to improve their lives.

“We cannot all be employed by the government; this is one of the interventions aimed at reducing unemployment. You will no longer have to queue or run around with CV’s, but you will be employers. Your skills should ensure sustainability, professionalism and independence,” Thokoana advised.

For his part, a representative of South African National Apex Cooperatives, Laurance Bale, said the training is part of government’s initiative to fight the three common challenges of unemployment, inequality and poverty. “When a person has skills, he will be able to contribute to the economic development of this country. They will use their skills and experience to form cooperatives which will make it easier to access funds from government ,” explained Bale.
