The outgoing CEO of Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli Regional Hospital says she is proud of the legacy she has left after her five-year tenure at the helm of the hospital.

Bongi Mthimkhulu has attributed her success to employment of competent personnel and instilling a culture of professionalism at the hospital.

“When I took over five years ago, shortage of staff was at 80 percent but I am proud today that the figure now stands at 31 percent. I also managed to turn around the place and run it in a professional manner. When I arrived here employees were doing as they pleased. But look at them today they know how to keep time and conduct themselves professionally.”

But Mthimkhulu, who is leaving to head Boitumelo Hospital in Kroonstad, admitted that there were still challenges her successor will have to deal with such as shortage of specialist doctors.

Mthimkhulu:

“Shortage of anaesthetists is also a big challenge,”

Mthimkhulu said her transfer came at a time when the health of her ageing mother was deteriorating and she needs her most. “This transfer will make is easier for me to look after my mother as Kroonstad is closer to home. I will no longer have to travel long distance to take care of my mother,” she added.

She also urged her staff to continue their good work and give the incoming CEO the same support they had given to her.

Mthimkhulu’s tenure was beset by protests led by the National Education and Health Allied Workers Union who accused her of incompetence and lack of cooperation.

One of the union’s demands was the permanent appointment of casual workers.
