QWAQWA – In a dramatic twist, the Hawks have arrested a man linked to a 2023 burglary at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) offices—while he was already behind bars for another break-in.
Dino Shwerin kekana is already serving a three-year sentence in Wepener prison, and was tracked down after a two-year investigation by the Hawks’ Organised Crime Investigation team, under the Crimes Against the State (CAT) unit.
Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Zweli Mohobeleli said the burglary at the NPA offices was reported in 2023 after Kekana allegedly forced his way in through a window and stole several laptops and other valuables.
“DNA evidence, including blood stains collected from the scene, was analysed and pointed directly to the him,” Mohobeleli explained.
Investigators later discovered the Kekana is also wanted in at least six other burglary cases, most committed in Bloemfontein’s CBD.
He appeared briefly before the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on Monday September 15 before his matter wass postponed to 22 October 2025 for further investigations.
