QWAQWA– Despite constant power outages being a significant public health issue with a considerable impact on health to date, Elizabeth Ross district hospital was the epicentre of celebrations on Wednesday, in honour of nurses for defeating Covid-19 pandemic.
Hospital Head of Nursing Alice Mosase paid tribute to nurses for their hard work and dedication more especially during the battle against covid-19 pandemic. She said the Nurses have shown the required perseverance and selfless in treating covid-19 patients “indeed they have delivered. This certificates are the token of recognition and appreciation from management that regardless of the frustration and challenges they face in their line of duty, they have managed to uphold the Florence Nightingale pledge that ‘the health of my patient shall be my first priority’’. Said Mosase.
She was speaking at the awards ceremony at the hospital as they recognise the remarkable role played by Nurses in the health-care sector.
Chief Executive Officer, Nonkululeko Matjhoba said although the international Nurses day was commemorated last month nationally and provincially, the hospital agreed to celebrate their Nurses this month. “In most of the year, our Nurses were embracing the hospital darkness due to constant power outages to continue treating their patients using their torch, that’s dedication and commend them for showing selflessness”.
She said cautiously they have defeated covid19 because they have managed to open a new unit which specifically treating covid-19 patients “And it has done tremendously well as we had most of our covid-19 patients being fully recovered through our Nurses commitment” said Matjhoba.
She furthermore continue to encourage community to vaccinate for covid-19 as the country is set to embrace chilly weather.
