QWAQWA – A 38-year old man from Khosheng Section in Monontsha village has been arrested for the brutal murder of a 67-year old man and the rape of an 85-year old woman.
The crimes unfolded late on Sunday night, 14 September, when the elderly woman was asleep in her home.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring, the suspect allegedly forced his way inside at around 22:30.
The woman immediately phoned her son for help. When the 67-year-old arrived, he was confronted by the intruder, who reportedly overpowered him and stabbed him several times with a sharp object. He died instantly at the scene.
Mophiring said the suspect then turned on the elderly woman, raping her before fleeing.
“Our members worked tirelessly through the night and managed to trace and arrest the suspect in the early hours of Monday morning,” he said.
The accused is expected to appear before the Tseki Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 16 September, to face charges of murder and rape.
