Shot doctor discharged from hospital

QWAQWA – A 26-year old doctor who was attacked and shot at Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli regional hospital on Tuesday, who was rushed to the hospital by fellow doctor has been discharged from Intensive Care unit after responding well to the treatment.
This was confirmed by the clinical manager at Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli hospital Dr SJ Moloi.

“We did the operation and fortunately there were no major injuries to his body, and he is recovering very well. It was scary where the bullet went through , it could have caused serious damage but fortunately he is well he has been discharged and he is going home and will soon resume his duty as a doctor.

According to department of health spokesperson Mondli Mvambi ,it was reported that unknown intruders jumped into a room of our doctors at a secure area with security at the gate and in the whole premises.

“They forced the doctor to hand over his cell phone at gun point, ordered him to kneel down and when he realized that they were aiming to shoot him in the head he stood up and was shot in the lower abdomen. A nearby doctor heard the gun shot and immediately intervened. The victim was immediately operated on and is alive in the ICU,” Mvambi said.

Thabo Mofutsanyana district police spokesperson warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring has confirmed that police are investigating a case of attempted murder and robbery following the doctor’s attack at the doctors’ quarters at Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli regional hospital in Qwaqwa.

“It is alleged that on May 21 2024 at about 2130hrs, one of the doctors was listening to music in his bedroom with his headset. His roommate heard a sound and called him several times. He looked at the door and found that he was bleeding.”

He said no one has so far been arrested and police request anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to assist.

This publication has learned that following this incident the hospital has enlisted the services of a local security company to beef up its security.
