QWAQWA – Following recent reports about certain councillors within the Maluti-a-Phofung Mayoral Committee (MAYCO), executive mayor Gilbert Mokotso has reshuffled his cabinet.

This is a result of the outcomes of the special council sitting held on the 25th of May mayor Mokotso has effected the changes in the MAYCO as follows :

Finance: Cllr. Shashapa Motaung
Infrastructure: Cllr. Azael Nhlapo
LED, Tourism, SMMEs and Agriculture: Cllr Ellen Mofokeng
Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation: Cllr Bridget Lebesa
Women, Children, People Living with Disabilities: Cllr Khanyi Molefe

Democratic Alliance councillor Moshe Lefume expressed the sentiment that the DA had hoped that councillor Azael Nhlapo would be suspended pending an investigation adding to this DA councillor Alison Oates says that they are not surprised of the reshuffling because a lot of councillors have to be investigated.

“We have requested that a committee be established and we expect a report on the findings of this committee regarding all electricity vending stations that may belong to councillors,” Oates said.

ANC chief whip Mandlenkosi Dlamini said that their party commends the executive mayor for reshuffling his committee but a lot of things in the municipality still need to be thoroughly investigated.
