QWAQWA – Former Hlaudi Motsoeneng has ruled himself out of the race to become mayor of the Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality should the African Content Movement (ACM) take control of the municipality after the local government elections.
Motsoeneng made the remarks while addressing residents from the Monontsha cluster at Majara School on Saturday, 23 May.
He told community members that residents themselves would choose a mayor they trust, but warned that anyone appointed to lead the municipality would be expected to deliver results within six months or face removal.
“I do not want to be the mayor of Maluti-A-Phofung. The people must choose someone they trust because they understand their own challenges. But that person must start delivering within six months or they will be removed,” said Motsoeneng.
The ACM leader said his party had adopted a strict approach towards accountability and service delivery, adding that both mayors and ward councillors would be removed if they failed communities.
Motsoeneng accused other political parties of making empty promises while communities continued to suffer without basic services.
“At ACM we are servants of the people. We are not interested in empty promises but in tangible results and service delivery. Communities cannot wait five years listening to promises while nothing changes. People want to see immediate improvement in their lives,” he said.
