WARDEN – Thabo Mofutsanyana district municipality executive mayor Conny Msibi led celebrations to mark Women’s Month at an event filled with scripture readings and singing of hymns.

This event was organised by the Speaker of Phumelela local municipality Topzi Zwane. It was at this event that women religious leaders from all walks of life, old and young gathered at Ezenzeleni hall called for divine intervention in the fight against women and children abuse.

The director of the programme who is also MMC in the Thabo Mofutsanyana district Malefu Vilakazi, called for some soul-searching to find out what went so wrong as to result in a country where women are abused and killed at will.
“How did we get here? Where did we go wrong? We want to go back to the days when a father was respected and trusted and regarded as a protector, not an abuser,” Vilakazi said.

The municipal manager of Thabo Mofutsanyana district municipality, Takatso Lebenya, evoked emotions as the hall full of women joined her in song.
Lebenya challenged women not to be victims of abuse and become fighters who hold their heads high despite the challenges.
“I want to say, soldier on, let us regain our strength and power; we can only achieve that when we are united. Women must unite and support one another.”

Speaker after speaker quoted from the Bible as encouraged women to remain steadfast in prayer.
Motivational speaker Malefu Ngobese encouraged women to have faith in God. “Only prayer can save us when everything is turning against. Let s us pray God who forgives, loves and hears us.”
Veteran member of ANCWL Paulina Kubeka said democracy has come with both good and bad.

“Everything went wrong when we turned our backs on our foundations, stopped religion teaching in schools and they longer held assemblies and pray before classes can commence.”
