QWAQWA- Born on June 2 1931, Nkgono Tlakane Ellen Seitshiro who celebrated her birthday last Saturday, says the secret to her long life is obedience and prayer.

“The secret to reaching this age? I do not know but I think it is an answer to my prayers. I always pray to God for life from God. Whenever I pray, I ask for God’s mercy,” Seitshiro said.

The nonagenarian’s birthday was celebrated at Debult in Phuthditjhaba with a traditional theme and well-wishers were treated to traditional music and dance such as mokhibo, not to mention horse riding. A variety of traditional dishes were also served.

Family spokesperson Matshediso Seitshiro said the traditional celebration was in appreciation of their mother’s teachings of tradition and their heritage.

“We wanted to thank her for teaching us our tradition and culture. Everything we know we learned from her.”

Seitshiro has been blessed with 10 children, two girls and eight boys. Seven boys and a girl have since passed on. She is left with only two children Matshediso Seitshiro and Dintletse Seitshiro.

The birthday girl has been blessed with 14 grandchildren, 12  great grandchildren and one great-grate grandchild.
