QWAQWA – Saturday a group of plus size women took to the streets of Phuthaditjhaba as part of a 5km monthly health walk aimed at promoting self – love and building confidence for the fuller figured woman.
Matumelo Mofokeng the ambassador of BBW Queens which stands for Big Black Women who are also Queens spoke to The Guard saying, “Our movement is all about promoting self – love and confidence amongst plus size women.” The walk that took place on Saturday started from BP Garage in Phuthaditjhaba all the way to the Thabo Mofotshanyana District offices. “As part of our initiative to promote a healthy lifestyle for fuller figured women we embarked on this walk because as we all know there are greater health risks for people who carry more weight in their body,” Said Mofokeng.
Tebello Moeketsi founded the Free State Big Black Women Queens movement in December 2018 when he realized that fuller figured women suffer from low self – esteem and a lack of confidence. “As a man I prefer fuller figured women, so while dating them I realized that they deal with a lot of insecurities,” Moeketsi said.
The organization is all about promoting a good self – image for plus size women and to empower them to feel comfortable in their own skin. Moeketsi also told The Guard that most of fuller figured women have endured being bullied and called names at school and grow up having many insecurities about their self – image. “As a fuller figured woman myself I love being the ambassador for BBW queens because I encourage other women my size to love themselves unconditionally and to work towards having a healthy lifestyle,” Mofokeng said.
