BETHLEHEM – Thirty-five-year old Tlhoriso Godfrey Mofokeng who is facing charges of murder, rape and defeating the ends of justice will apply for bail on October 20, after he was reminded in custody on October 11.
Mofokeng is linked to the murder of a 24-year old woman from Matwebeng near Senekal whose lifeless body was found dumped near Liebenbergvlei River outside the eastern Free State town of Bethlehem.
According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, Mofokeng was arrested on October 7, in Bohlokong near Bethlehem after thorough investigation by police linked him to the murder.
“It is alleged that on September 26, at about 06:30 a community member was passing at an open field when he saw the naked body of a woman lying on her back; closed to her were her clothes – a blue pair of jeans and underwear.
When her lifeless body was lift up a men’s waist belt without a buckle was later found underneath her body,” Makhele disclosed.
He further said the deceased had sustained an open wound on the left side of the head. Her face was swollen and the body was starting to decompose. A post-mortem was conducted, revealing that she had been raped and murdered.
