QWAQWA – Life has taken a devastating turn for 27-year old Napo Motloung of Snake Park, Bluegunbosch, after his two-roomed shack was gutted by fire on Friday evening.

Motlloung says he left his shack for a few minutes on Friday afternoon after which he noticed smoke coming from the inside. He said the incident happened very quickly.

“Just when I got back I saw flames through the windows. We tried our best to contain the fire with the help of my neighbours but we couldn’t,” said a devastated Motloung.

Motloung said the fire destroyed everything, from the stove, kitchen unit, sofas to electronic appliances and clothing items.

Napo Motloung’s shack burnt to ashes.

“I don’t know what caused the fire since all the electrical appliances such as the heater and hot plate were switched off when I left. I plead to the residents of Maluti-a -Phofung for help me rebuild my shack. I also thank my neighbours for helping me put out the fire.”

His father, who was among those who tried to contain the fire, Puseletso January Motloung, says they reported the incident to the municipality’s fire and emergency services but when they arrived, the shack had already been consumed.

He said his son’s television set and one sofa were the only items they’ve managed to salvage.

“We did our best to contain the fire but we failed. We used soil because we don’t have running water for months now. It destroyed everything,” said Motloung Senior.

Napo is a father of two kids, aged five and two months old. It will be difficult for him to rebuild since he is unemployed. Anyone who wishes to assist the family can contact Napo on 063 042 0644.
