POLICE NAB MORE SUSPECTS WITH STOLEN GOODS

HARRISMITH – Two men aged 42 and 52 were expected to appear before the Harrismith magistrate court on Monday on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

The pair was arrested by Harrismith Highway Patrol cops on Friday. According to police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, Harrismith Highway Patrol officers, Warrant Officer Marius Nel and Constable Thapelo Mothapo, were driving in Harrismith town when they noticed a suspicious Toyota Quantum taxi with ND registration numbers driving out of town with goods loaded on its seats. They followed it.

“The taxi with three occupants, the owner and two employees was stopped, near Bergview. The two

indicated that they were from Kwazulu-Natal and heading to Warden. The taxi was taken to the police station and searched.”

The following items estimated to the value of R150 000 were found: eight Sedan and bakkie tyres, an

air conditioner system, two 32-inch plasma television sets and a washing machine.

Meanwhile, two men from Lenasia, Gauteng are expected to appear before Harrismith magistrate court on Monday after they were found in possession of counterfeit cigarettes worth R586 000.

Makhele said a joint operation by law enforcement agancies stopped a silver grey Nissan Np300, on July 30, at about 21:45, at a road block on N3.

“Upon search, police found 28 sealed boxes containing 50x cartoons of cigarettes and another loose 100 cartoons.”

He  said the two suspects failed to provide proof of purchase nor delivery invoice.
