BETHLEHEM — QwaQwa’s Young Flames Ladies set Barkenpark alight, thrashing Bethlehem’s Derby Ladies 6-0 to go top of Stream D in the Free State Women’s Provincial League.
In only their second match of their debut season, the visiting Flames travelled to Bethlehem on Saturday and showed no mercy.
Both sides started with hunger, but it was Young Flames who struck first. Bonolo Sefatsa and Manana Mokoena fired them to a 2-0 lead at half-time.Then the floodgates opened — despite pouring rain in the second half.
Malebo Maduna, Dipolelo Lebelo, Tshepiso Maboya and Mpho Mofokeng all hit the back of the net to seal a dominant away victory and maximum points.
“I feel very happy about the win. Players are giving outstanding performance against big teams in our first season. We use most under-age players and I am happy with the progress so far,” said Young Flames coach Vusimuzi Motloung.
The result leaves Young Flames top of the log with 6 points and 12 goals in just two games.
Derby Ladies, on the other hand, are bottom of the table after two straight defeats.
“We lost so many players last season and we are starting with new players again. I am in mixed emotions at the moment. We still have a lot of games to go and there is still a lot to offer this season as a team,” said Derby coach Kabelo Mokoena.
