_Paul Roux star clocks 4:04.24 in World Road Running Championships marathon_

BETHLEHEM — From the dusty streets of Fateng-Tse-Ntso in Paul Roux to the global stage in Copenhagen — 2026 has become a milestone year for rising distance star Dumisani Motloung.
Motloung lined up against the world’s best at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark this past weekend, representing South Africa in the One Mile race after a dominant domestic season where he medalled in every championship he entered — from Cross Country and Track to Road Miles.
The global event drew more than 70 elite athletes for the mile showdown, alongside the 5km and Half Marathon.
“It feels good. Doing your best and running a personal best at the same time is one of the best feelings,” said Motloung after the race.
Competing over 1.609km, Motloung stopped the clock at 4:04.24 to finish 35th in a world-class field.
“I believe I could have done better, but running with the best of the best from every part of the world shows the hard work I put in every day. Coming from a small town like Fateng-Tse-Ntso, it is proof that anything is possible if you believe and dedicate yourself,” he said.
World Athletics hailed the One Mile as the people’s race.
“The One Mile is the perfect event to enjoy with friends and family. No matter your pace, this is a unique chance to follow in the footsteps of the world elite and experience the atmosphere at a real World Championship,” the organisers said.
