QWAQWA – Hawks investigators have arrested a 37-year old suspect linked to an attempted cash-in-transit robbery near Thaba Nchu.
The suspect was apprehended on Monday, 2 February 2026, in the Mangaung area during a joint operation by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, Crime Intelligence and the Tactical Response Team.
Hawks spokesperson Fikiswa Matoti said the arrest relates to an attempted robbery on 8 August 2024 on the Thaba Nchu–Bloemfontein road.
During the incident, G4S guards travelling in an armoured vehicle were allegedly confronted by armed suspects in three vehicles — a blue Mercedes-Benz, a white Mercedes-Benz and a white Toyota double cab.
Shots were allegedly fired at the armoured vehicle, but no cash was taken and the suspects fled empty-handed.
The accused is expected to appear in the Botshabelo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 4 February 2026. Investigations continue.
