BETHLEHEM – Police in Bohlokong have arrested a man in connection with the alleged murder of his 29-year-old brother-in-law, whose body was discovered in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring, the body was found at about 04:50 on Sunday, 12 January 2026, near a church at the corner of De Villiers and Church Streets.

“Police were alerted to the body of a 29-year-old male lying near a church. The deceased had sustained fatal stab wounds to the chest and back and was certified dead at the scene by paramedics,” said Mophiring.

The deceased was later positively identified by his sister. While the motive for the killing is still unclear, preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the suspect.

Mophiring confirmed that the suspect is the victim’s brother-in-law and will appear before the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder.

“The suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in court soon,” she said.

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
