Deputy Minister of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Seiso Mohai.

By Teboho Moloi

QWAQWA – The Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Seiso Mohai, has expressed strong satisfaction with the work being done at the Phuthaditjhaba Thuthuzela Care Centre (TCC), based at Elizabeth Ross Hospital.

During his oversight visit on Friday, September 5, Mohai praised the professionalism of staff and the coordinated support offered by multiple stakeholders at the centre.

The TCC, which officially opened in April, provides specialised services to victims of gender-based violence (GBV) and other forms of abuse. Mohai said the centre is already making a visible impact in the community.

“We engaged with ordinary people during the visit and it was clear the centre contributes greatly to their lives. It provides privacy, instils confidence in the justice system, and ensures perpetrators are quickly identified and dealt with,” he said.

The deputy minister stressed that the establishment of TCCs demonstrates government’s seriousness in tackling GBV, femicide and other violent crimes. He pointed to strengthened legislation that mandates the arrest and prosecution of offenders as proof of the state’s commitment.

“No one should suffer from violence. Our socio-economic conditions cannot be an excuse for criminality to thrive. People have the right to live free from abuse, and justice must always prevail,” Mohai said.

He was accompanied by Maluti-a-Phofung Executive Mayor Malekula Melato and Member of the Mayoral Committee for Electricity and Infrastructure, Ditabe Nhlapho.
