EFF stages service delivery march

By Masilo Malakwane

QWA QWA –The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Thabo Mofutsanyana region broke with tradition and marked Freedom Day by staging a service delivery march to the Maluti-a-Phofung local municipality offices.

The EFF demanded that the executive mayor of Maluti-a-Phofung, Gilbert Tjhopo Mokotso be fired because the municipality has lost a sense of direction and will be plundered to bankruptcy under his leadership,

In a memorandum, the party accused the municipality’s new coalition government of corruption and not prioritising service delivery. They demanded adequate infrastructure and services such as roads, electricity supply and water for each household. They threatened to march again if their demands were not met in 14 days.

Provincial party secretary Bosanku Msimanga, told marchers that the municipality has broken the record in terms of misusing the public funds for personal gains and cannot provide proper service delivery to its residents.

“We are going to sue this municipality’s management for turning water entity MAP Water into a theft fund. Secondly we are going to open a corruption case against the acting chief financial officer Mpumelelo Success Mache for her appointment as we understand that the suspension of the substantive municipal chief financial officer, Jeminah Mazinyo was a covert way for them to steal public funds,” Msimanga harangued.

He also demanded that the contract awarded to Kill-Crime private security company be terminated as it costs the municipality over a million rand per month.

“This municipality’s debt had risen from R3-million to R5-million since Cogta placed them under Section 139.b,” Msimanga pointed out.

Meanwhile, AULA leader in MAP council, Lebohang Rapuleng, was also seen in support of the EFF’s service delivery march from Freedom Square to MAP headquarters. He said this was one of the reasons he had submitted a motion of No-Confidence against both the mayor and Speaker of the municipality.

The Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Integrated and Development Program, Teboho Mohlekwa received the memorandum on behalf of the Executive Mayor.
