BETHLEHEM – Executive mayor Tseki Tseki officially launched the second annual Dihlabeng Mayoral School Games at Bethlehem Town Hall on Friday, 8 May, with 14 school teams set to battle for top honours across several sporting codes.
The tournament will see schools from across the municipality competing for trophies, medals and sporting attire, with the finals scheduled for 27 June.
Tseki said the games are aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles among young people, while keeping learners away from drugs, alcohol abuse and other social ills.
He said the initiative also provides a platform for learners who may not shine academically to showcase their sporting talent.
“This is part of the municipality’s role in supporting community-driven solutions to social challenges,” he said.
Fixtures for the games are expected to be released soon.
