QWAQWA – The trial of a female pensioner, Evelyn Mosikili (75), who was found in possession of drugs and cash worth more than R290 000 resumes in September 2023.

This after the Hawks together with Asset forfeiture unit and national prosecuting authority (NPA) in Bloemfontein secured a preservation order of an amount more than R290 000 against the accused.

According to Hawks spokesperson Warrant officer Fikiswa Matoti, the case stemmed from November 2022 when police received information of dealing in drugs at Boiketlo village, in Qwaqwa and police followed up on the tip off.

“A search and seize operation was conducted at the house and police discovered drugs and cash amounting more than R160 000.When the accused was asked about drugs and cash, she tried to bribe police in order to avoid arrest,” Matoti said.

This followed their discovery of the cash in the house. The matter was referred to the Hawks and NPA which culminated in the preservation order being granted in the Bloemfontein high court on July 20 2023.
