BETHLEHEM – Hundreds of excited supporters gathered at Dihlabeng Mall to welcome home Teboho Mokoena, celebrating the Bafana Bafana midfielder’s achievements on the international stage and recognising him as one of the Free State’s sporting heroes.

Speaking to the media during the homecoming celebration, Mokoena expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received from his home community.

“It is an awesome feeling to receive so much love from the people of Dihlabeng, my community. I have travelled and received much love, but I still cannot believe the welcome I have received here. I am happy to be living my dream and I hope that one day a young person from my community can also reach this level,” he said.

Dihlabeng Executive Mayor Tseki Tseki said the municipality proudly stood behind Mokoena throughout his journey.

“Every time he was playing, the whole municipality was thrilled. The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation was behind him all the way. Teboho is a role model to our youth. Many would like to achieve what he has achieved, or even more. We are very proud of his achievements,” said Tseki.

Thabo Mofutsanyana Regional SAFA president Mahlapi de Koker praised Mokoena’s humility and urged young people to follow his example.

“We have seen him grow and develop as a player and we are proud of him. Young people must respect themselves and keep themselves busy. The people of Dihlabeng and the Free State love you so much for what you have done,” he said.

One of the most emotional moments came from Mokoena’s former primary school teacher, Tshedi Mogongoa of Matswathaka Primary School, who recalled teaching him life skills long before he became a household name.

“I used to call him ‘Jobo’ without even knowing why. Today I am so proud of him. I never knew I was grooming a future star,” she said.

The homecoming celebration highlighted not only Mokoena’s success on the football field but also the pride his achievements have brought to Dihlabeng.

His journey from a local schoolboy to an international football star continues to inspire young athletes across the Free State to pursue their dreams with dedication and discipline.
