QWAQWA- Tseki  Police in the eastern Free State have arrested  two  men at Phazama  section in Phamong after an armed robbery failed to go according to plan  instead a victim allegedly  shot and wounded  his attackers on Monday September 27.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele says on Monday September 27, at around 22;00, the tenants renting at Phazama section in QwaQwa were at home relaxing in their separate rooms.

“ One of the tenants who was in bed busy on his laptop was surprised by an attack by two men  armed with a knife and firearm. They robbed him  laptop and some cash and left his room.”

But when the suspect carrying a firearm proceeded to the second room he ran out of luck .

“He demanded money from him but did not find any and started searching the house. Upon realising that the suspect was concentrating on searching  his room , he took a beer bottle and hit him  on the head. They both wrestled for a firearm which unfortunately went off and wounded the suspect, “said Makhele.

He said apparently there was  third suspect who was waiting outside who  responded by firing  a gun shot  into the house when he heard  a gunshot coming from the house.

“The complainant allegedly returned fire and fortunately wounded him and he fell on the ground outside the house. Another suspect who was in possession of a knife fled the scene.”

He said police and ambulance were summoned to the scene. Both suspects under age of 30 years were apprehended and are receiving medical attention under heavy police guard.

Makhele disclosed that two firearms , 9mm pistols without serial numbers were seized.

Meanwhile commissioner of police LT Gen Baile Matswenyane said investigation will also look into the link between this case and the one happened in Botjhabela where three University of Free State students were shot dead while one is in critical condition in hospital  following an armed robbery.
