The newly elected ANC committee in the Thabo Mofutsanyana Region, has promised to hit the ground running in uniting and renewing all branches in the region, in line with the call by the party’s mother body.

In an interview with this publication regional secretary, Jeff Mohapi, said immediately after the elections they extended a hand to comrades who were contesting and did not win, because no one has won but only the party has.
“When there is contestation, people have their preferences and this what normally divides us if not attended to after elections; we met with those who have not won and told them that no one has won.”
While conceding that the newly elected REC faces a mammoth task of uniting the deeply divided region which led to them losing Maluti -A-PHofung local municipality, Mohapi said they will rise to the occasion.

“We need to unite and renew our region . We must do away with the parallel structures in our branches where you find two branch executive committees. We have also identified key problems, namely a gap between our councillors and their communities. We will ensure that gap is filled and our communities get the services they serve.

“Understandably, this was informed by the perceived or even real internal challenges that the ANC had been facing in recent times. Factions have been institutionalized at every level of the ANC and this can only spell disaster for our glorious movement.

“The ANC was founded on the basis of defeating, amongst others, tribalism, regionalism by uniting the exploited and disenfranchised majority of our country beyond sex, gender, economic status, creed, race, and other social ills that for the longest time defined our society as a country,” Mohapi added

Other members of REC are Thabo Justice Mokoena, Speaker of Thabo Mofutsanyana district municipality, who has been elected as the Chairperson, deputized by Conny Msibi who is the executive mayor of same district municipality;, Seun Mofokeng is the deputy secretary while an additional female member Malekula Melato will be responsible for the region’s purse as a treasurer.
