QWAQWA – Manako Mokoena from Makwane has thanked the executive mayor of Maluti – a – Phofung (MAP) local municipality for launching the VIP toilet cleaning campaign because usually it costs her R500 to get her toilet drained.
Mokoena said that three weeks back she paid R500 to drain her VIP toilet because she hosted a family gathering and that she was already worried because she had a lot of guests, and the toilet was almost full.
“I am grateful and happy about this because the municipality has drained my VIP toilet for free. I was very worried about where I was going to get the R500 it costs to drain the toilet because as a pensioner I survive on the government grant and I live and take care of my grandchildren who are orphans, and they are unemployed and depend on my pension money. I am very happy about this and wish you could keep it up. I am also very happy and proud to meet the mayor,” Mokoena said during an engagement with the mayor when she entered her yard to inspect the VIP toilet.
“I am very happy to see community members appreciate the efforts that the municipality is making towards bringing adequate service delivery to them. We are unable to reach and cater to all the people’s needs but the issue of VIP toilets is very important, that is why we decided to launch this project because the people who do this for the community make them pay monies that they do not have. I believe that together we can do more,” executive mayor Malekula Melato said.

In an interview with The Guard Lehlohonolo Musi who is one of the contractors hired to clean the community’s toilets said the following, “I work in Makeneng, Thabana Tsoana, Phomollong and Mangaung and we clean 240 VIP toilets per ward and we have been doing this for many years now and since the launch of this project we have assisted a lot of our community members for free.”
MAP executive mayor Melato launched the cleaning of 6500 VIP toilets also referred to as the honey-sucker project which forms part of her 100 days mayoral programme. Melato and several of her MMC’s visited the community of Makwane and Makeneng, on 5 August to make sure that the honey sucker trucks that the municipality has contracted to do this job are doing their work.
