Reahola learner clinches 7 distinctions

QWAQWA – Free State matric top achiever, Malik Torino Shunga of Reahola Secondary School in Phuthaditjhaba who was the second highest achiever nationally grade, was awarded for being the best candidate at the province’s well-done function at Central University of Technology Bloemfontein on Friday last week.

Shunga, 17, managed to obtain a 92 percent average, having scored 7 distinctions in Life Orientation, Mathematics, Life Science, Tourism and Physical Science and others to mention a few.

“It wasn’t easy. I promised myself to stay focused and to work hard. I unleashed my potential by going the extra mile. “I used to assist my fellow pupils with school work and it worked for me. I’m going to study medicine at Wits University.

I had to stick to my study method, and this meant not playing my favourite sport, tennis. I also cancelled my extra classes at Kutlwanong, Tshiya Resource Centre and focus my energies on doing better” he said.

Meanwhile, Education MEC, Tate Makgoe, lauded all provincial top 100 achievers, saying it gives the black child hope to access universities.

“This is their hope for a better life, hope for a better future. I would like to emphasise the significance of hiring capable teachers who are passionate about the career of teaching; this plays a very pivotal role in harnessing the pupils best potential.”
