QwaQwa – A 41-year old man from Hasethunya Village has been jailed for 15 years direct imprisonment after stabbing his love rival to death.

Teboho Kubheka was sentenced at the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Monday for the murder of 43-year old Thabiso Molitsoane.

According to police, the killing happened on 5 May 2023 at 2.10am.

Kubheka was with his girlfriend when he accused her of having an affair with Molitsoane, who lived nearby.

Court papers heard how Kubheka and his girlfriend went looking for Molitsoane. When they found him, Kubheka allegedly stabbed him several times.

Molitsoane was rushed to hospital in a private vehicle but died from his injuries.

Kubheka fled after the attack. He was arrested in Qwaqwa on 9 December 2024. Bail was denied and he remained behind bars until sentencing.

The case was investigated by Detective Sergeant Sabatha Rampini of Tseki Detective Service, working with the NPA.

Free State Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Thabang Lesia welcomed the sentence.

“The message is crystal clear: crime does not pay, and justice will prevail,” Lesia said.

Police say jealousy-driven violence continues to claim lives in the district. This sentence sends a direct message: taking the law into your own hands will cost you your freedom.
