BLOEMFONTEIN – Eight years after escaping immediate imprisonment through a suspended sentence, convicted fraudster Mamufumadi Anna Molelekoa-Taso (45) has been ordered to serve a direct prison term after failing to comply with a court order to repay millions of rand stolen from victims.

Molelekoa-Taso was sentenced in 2018 alongside her late husband, Teboho Samuel Taso, following their convictions for fraud and theft linked to a property scam that defrauded unsuspecting members of the public in 2013.

The couple, through their companies Quick Step Trading 545 CC and Senothetsha Property and Developers CC, sold properties to members of the public and unlawfully benefited from the transactions, leaving numerous victims out of pocket.

As part of the sentence imposed by the court, the couple received a 10-year suspended prison sentence on condition that they repay approximately R4.8 million to the complainants. However, the repayment never materialised, placing Molelekoa-Taso in direct violation of the court order.

Her husband passed away shortly after sentencing, leaving Molelekoa-Taso solely responsible for complying with the conditions attached to the suspended sentence.

According to Hawks Free State spokesperson Warrant Officer Fikiswa Matoti, the court issued a warrant of arrest for Molelekoa-Taso in March 2026 after it became clear that she had failed to honour the repayment agreement.

β€œShe was later traced while incarcerated at Park Road Police Station in Bloemfontein on an unrelated matter. Due to her continued non-compliance with the conditions of her suspended sentence, the court ordered that the sentence be enforced,” said Matoti.

The ruling means Molelekoa-Taso will now serve the prison term that was previously suspended, bringing a dramatic conclusion to a fraud case that has lingered in the courts for more than a decade.

The decision sends a strong warning that suspended sentences are not a shield against imprisonment and that offenders who fail to comply with court-imposed conditions will ultimately face the full consequences of the law.
