Mokoena heaped praise on the ANC for its continued commitment to the recognition of deserving women. “We are happy with the appointment of Ntombela because she has the skills and experience to take this province forward. Mme Ntombela has been deployed in different structures of the executive committee and has served as MEC in different portfolios.”

Mokoena appealed to Ntombela to use her new position to turn the fortunes of the municipality and ensure that people who are tasked with leadership do so within the confines of the law.

“She is the best candidate for the position of premier; she is familiar with the challenges municipalities are facing, and we hope her elevation to the highest decision making office will benefit municipal employees.”

While Ntombela has been appointed Free State premier, another woman Refilwe Mtsweni was at the same time appointed premier of Mpumalanga. She replaces David Mabuza who is deputy president of ANC and the State .

Ntombela’s is the fourth woman to lead the province after Ivy Matsepe -Casaburi, Winnie Direko and Beatice Marshoff.
