KESTELL – Six men accused of killing a Tlholong resident and brutally assaulting two others remain in custody after appearing in the Kestell Magistrate’s Court.
They face charges of kidnapping, murder, attempted murder and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The case was postponed to April 22, 2026, for further bail proceedings.
Police say the attack took place on February 10, when three young men from Tlholong Township were lured into a Kestell butchery.
Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said the victims were allegedly beaten with sticks, a hose pipe and a tonfa, and repeatedly kicked while being accused of local break-ins.
One victim, Tankiso James Maitse (31), died during the assault.
His body was allegedly dumped in an open field using a wheelbarrow and discovered five days later. An inquest docket was later upgraded to a murder case.
Six suspects were arrested: Moses Moloi (47), Rabie Minnies (49), Tumelo Jacob Mphuthi (41), Lehlohonolo Godfrey Tsosane (30), Mohlokoane Motsoari (29) and Tshepo Mofokeng (25).
Police said Tactical Response Team and Public Order Police units maintained a strong presence at court.
“All six accused remain in custody,” Mophiring said.
