QWAQWA – Police in the Free State have launched a manhunt for at least four suspects following the fatal shooting of a 58-year-old woman at Thabanatshoana Village in Tseseng on Saturday night.
According to a media statement from the Office of the Provincial Commissioner, police were alerted to a shooting incident at about 20:55 on Saturday, 24 January 2026.
On arrival, officers found the body of an African female lying in a pool of blood inside a shack.
The victim was identified as Matshediso Nteo (58), who sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was certified dead at the scene.
Police confirmed that the deceased was recently elected chairperson of the Qwauta Association within the taxi industry.
Preliminary investigations indicate that four suspects were seen in the area before fleeing the scene in an unidentified white vehicle with Gauteng registration plates. The motive for the killing is still under investigation.
Police have appealed to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or who have information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects is urged to contact Detective Warrant Officer Thabang Mbele of the Serious and Violent Crime, Murder and Robbery Unit.
“All information received will be treated with the strictest confidentiality,” police added.
No arrests had been made at the time of publication.
