QWAQWA – The executive mayor of Maluti-a-Phofung Malekula Melato said the contractors engaged to fix roads had to be stopped after they exceeded the scope of their work.
Melato was clarifying the reason for the incomplete patching of roads which has resulted in inconveniencing of traffic management.

“The service providers who were appointed through the supply chain, have extended scope of their work, they have broken agreement of the contract as a result we had to stop them as that was very problematic.

“We were talking about patching of the potholes, but they decided to repair the roads.
“In terms of the budget that we have, it is true, we know that, we use the municipality’s available resources and labour, our staff as well as community development projects. I was surprised to see the skills that our officials have.”

She said other projects related to roads and sewage spill are interventions from both provincial and national governments.

Melato said this when addressing the council sitting on August 29, in response to Paratlane Motloung who wanted clarity on the progress in the patching of the roads and funds used.

“There is a project of the mayor that falls under her 100 days in the office, the patching of the roads. When that project started many people were happy but it has stalled and it has become an inconvenience in some of these roads, inconveniencing traffic in certain areas.
