BLOEMFONTEIN – The Bloemfontein Regional Court has sentenced Dino Sherwin Kekana (29) to eight years’ direct imprisonment for burgling and stealing from the National Prosecuting Authority’s Director of Public Prosecutions offices in Bloemfontein in 2023.

Kekana was traced to Wepener Correctional Centre, where he was already serving a sentence in another matter.

Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Fikiswa Matoti said Kekana broke into the NPA offices through a window. Four laptops worth about R100 000, along with other staff belongings, were stolen.

“A case of business burglary was registered and later referred to the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit for further investigation. On September 12, 2025, the investigating team traced and arrested the accused at Wepener Correctional Centre, where he was serving a sentence in another matter,” said Matoti.

She said DNA evidence linked Kekana to the crime.

In addition to the eight-year sentence, the court declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

Free State Hawks provincial head Major General Mokgadi Bokaba praised the investigating team for securing the conviction.
