FICKSBURG – The Ficksburg Magistrates’ Court has convicted Mubien Anwary (43) of attempting to bribe two South African Police Service officers attached to Crime Prevention.
According to Zweli Mohobelelio, the incident occurred on 25 July 2024 after police followed up information about a truck carrying illicit cigarettes valued at R1.2 million. Officers traced the consignment to a house in Ficksburg.
While the scene was being processed, Anwary arrived in a black BMW and allegedly called the two sergeants to his vehicle, offering them R15 000 to release the truck.
The officers refused and immediately alerted the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, who arrested Anwary on the spot. The seized cigarettes were handed over to customs officials.
Free State Hawks head Mokgadi Bokaba praised the officers for their integrity, saying they upheld their oath and the rule of law.
