Man arrested for alleged murder of girlfriend in Meqheleng

FICKSBURG – A 32-year-old man from Meqheleng has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of his 24-year-old girlfriend, Nomsa Kotope, at her rented room in Zone 2, Meqheleng.

According to police, the suspect allegedly accused the victim of infidelity before the fatal incident. The body of the young woman was discovered on Sunday, 7 December 2025, after the suspect’s former girlfriend reported to the Ficksburg police that a woman might have been murdered In Meqheleng.

Police responded immediately and upon arrival at the residence found the victim lying on the floor inside her rental room. Emergency Medical Services were summoned to the scene and she was declared dead upon arrival.

The suspect was arrested shortly thereafter and has been charged with murder. He is expected to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 9 December 2025.

Thabo Mofutsanyana District SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring confirmed the arrest and appealed to the community to refrain from acts of violence.

He further encouraged anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist police with investigations.The motive for the murder is still under investigation.
