HARRISMITH – The Kholokoe traditional leaders council has stepped in taking it upon themselves to encourage good behavior, moral and ethics amongst young boys by holding a one day boys assembly at Sasamala secondary school on Friday 15 May.

Close to 100 boys learners from various schools including Nexus, Tsebong Ulwazi, Kgetha Tsebo Morena Letlatsa, Morena Tshoiso, Boipopo and Sasamala all gathered under one roof for corrective lessons for good behavior.

Chief Ernest Moloi says the program is aligned with the celebration of international boys day on 16 May and they held the boys assembly to have frank talks with them aiming to assist in building them to be good fathers and role model of tomorrow.

Moloi says they also wantedto remind them that they are still children and should stay in their lane and not rush to engage in staff meant for elders, such as use of alcohol, smoking and engaging in relationships.

“As the traditional council we see that many boys behavior is getting out of hand or control which demand of us as leaders, fathers in the community at large to stand up and fix this behavior before getting out control to be worse,”said Moloi.

The council says they are gong to have continuous engagement programes which will also help monitor their interventions implemented.

He blamed government for democracy that focused in introducing to much rights but forgetting to put focus on teaching of responsibilities of those rights.

“To be honest we are a bit too late and as traditional council we were distant and allowed democracy to led putting our culture and tradition on the back seat, but it is time we take over and fix things our way,” he said.

Stakeholders included representatives from correctional services, South African Police services, Social Development and mens forum amongst.

All signed the pledge with learners to committing to always be avaliable for assistance and boys committing for good behavior.
