DEPUTY PRESIDENT LEADS INTERVENTION DELEGATION IN MAP

QWAQWA-Deputy president David Mabuza w ill is expected to conduct an oversight visit in the Maluti-a-phofung local municipality in the eastern Free State on Tuesday.

The visit is the second service delivery visit since commitment made by the deputy President to parliament , to intervene in service delivery hotspots.

According the media statement  Mabuza will be accompanied by Premier of Free Sate Sefora Ntombela , the minister of Cooperative Governance  and Traditional Affairs Cogta Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma , Minister of Human Settlement , Ware and sanitation Lindiwe Sisulu, deputy minister of Trade and Industry and Competition Fikile Majola and leadership of Thabo Mofutsanyana district municipality and Maluti-a- Phofung.

The intervention follows issues that were raised in parliament by various parties relating to electricity and water disruption due to  debt owed by Maluti-a-phofung to Eskom.

Maluti-a-phofung was previously placed under administration, under  section 39 (1)(b) of the Constitution which has since been lifted.

The visit by deputy president forms part of support intervention  by the inter-ministerial committee on service delivery.

“Maluti-a- phofung has been one of areas affected by water supply due to power disruptions. In this regard the deputy president and ministers are expected to visit one of the affected water projects  in the delivery of water to residents in the municipality” statement read.

This visit also falls within the context of the District development model for accelerated, aligned and integrated service delivery, that speaks to the urgency required to turn around municipalities experiencing challenges.
