BETHLEHEM – A 32-year old Bohlokong man will spend 15 years behind bars for a vicious steel pipe assault that left a 41-year-old neighbour with serious head injuries.
Neo Majama was sentenced in the Bethlehem Regional Court on 16 February 2026 after being convicted of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The court heard that at about 03:00 on 21 March 2025, Majama ambushed Lehlohonolo Mabitsela in Bibi Street, Bohlokong, and repeatedly struck him on the head with a steel pipe.
The attack followed a domestic dispute between Majama and his ex-girlfriend. Fearing for her safety, the woman sought help from her neighbour, Mabitsela, who confronted Majama. He returned to his rented room, but later emerged from behind as Mabitsela escorted the woman to Mosia Street and launched the assault, inflicting two open head wounds.
Majama fled on foot. Mabitsela was rushed to hospital for treatment.
After investigations by Bohlokong detective Sergeant Gumbi, Majama was arrested on 16 May 2025. He was denied bail and remained in custody until sentencing.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring welcomed the sentence, saying it sends a clear warning against violent, domestic-related attacks.
“This sentence demonstrates the justice system’s firm stance against brutal assaults. We commend the investigating officer and the National Prosecuting Authority for ensuring justice was served,” she said.
Police urged communities to report domestic disputes and violence before they escalate.
