Lakaje-Mosia said the municipality will build on the successes it has attained as it moves forward in the new financial year of 2020/21.

“Honourable Speaker, even though we had some challenges as a municipality but this car was not standing still; it was moving, and there were some tasks we were able to complete.

As we conclude the current financial year of 2019/2020, we were able to implement an array of projects in Maluti a Phofung that included:

“The Intabazwe Rectification of Water Supply line is about to be concluded in which we partnered with Nestle. Progress of the construction of 3500 VIP Toilet in Namahadi amounting to R32 million is impressive and this will benefit Wards 12, 16, 23, 26 and 33. There is significant progress made on the upgrade of the Nuwejaarspruit to the value of R17.2 million,” the mayor enthused.

She said, in a bid to address water challenges, the municipality anticipated to complete the Qholaqhwe-Mphatlalatsane bulk interconnection with R2 million.

Thisconnection will assist areas like Mphatlalatsane and Clubview, that used to receive water from Fika Patso Dam. The interconnection from Metsimatsho Dam to feed the Comet to Ha Rankopane network is progressing well. This connection will relieve demand from Fika Patso Dam to feed water to Mandela Park, Slovo Park and Letshalemaduke.

“The Mphatlalatsane construction of water network for 500 stands in Ward two is progressing well. Projects like the construction of Wilge Park Reservoir is well in progress. We are well in progress with water connections works done in Hlatseng. We have begun expanding the Sterkfontein Water Treatment Plant to benefit areas like; Tshiame, Makgolokweng, Bluegumbosch, Phuthaditjhaba and Kestell as well,” added the mayor.

She said more strides have been made to upgrade the Fika Patso dam water treatment plant which will improve the quality of water.
